Blue Teal see strong Broncos, win over Cubs

In a pair of home games, the Blue Teal amateur baseball team split Corn Belt League play losing to the Madison Broncos on Thursday and emerging victorious over Salem in a slugfest on Sunday afternoon.

Madison 22, Blue Teal 7
FLANDREAU – The Broncos took advantage of seven Blue Teal errors and slammed in 22 runs winning over the Teal, 22-7.
The Teal pitching crew was hit hard by the Broncos’ 17 hits which included two home runs and four doubles. Tash Lunday took the pitching loss giving up 12 runs on 10 hits in 4.1 innings. Kolby Peters came in and allowed 10 runs off seven hits.
For the Blue Teal in the batter’s box, Michael Witte had a three run home run and Emmott Nathan had three hits.

Blue Teal 22, Salem 21
FLANDREAU – The Blue Teal swung their way back into the win column on Sunday afternoon, taking a high run game over Salem, 22-21, even though the Cubs belted out four home runs.
The Teal found themselves down 14-21 heading in the bottom half of the eighth inning before an eight run inning gave them the lead. Neither team scored in the ninth to give Flandreau the win.
Right fielder Micah Otto batted 5-for-5 with a double and three singles while Mason Riley had a led with five RBI and had the lone home run. The Blue Teal gathered up 25 hits in the game with 10 of the 11 batters getting a hit.
Doubles also came from Michael Witte, Sam Gassman, Emmott Nathan and Kolby Peters. Peters finished with four RBI for the 4-2 Blue Teal.
On the mound, Tristan Peters earned the win in 2.2 innings of work. Nathan was the starter giving up 15 runs off eight hits which included three home runs. He struck out six and walked seven Cub batters. Peters also allowed a home run. Mason Riley closed the game out striking out two in an inning’s work.
