Alicia DeSchepper, the previous Deputy Director of Equalization, has been hired as the new Director of Planning and Zoning for Moody County.
The hiring comes as the previous Director Kendra Eng left in December for another career opportunity.
DeSchepper, a Colman native, has lived somewhere in the county much of her life so the opportunity to learn and grow and serve the county is something she is looking forward to.
In my previous role, I was the Deputy Director of Equalization, although I enjoy assessing, I saw an opportunity for a challenge, DeSchepper told the Moody County Enterprise during her second official week on the job.
She was offered and accepted the position on December 13th, her first official day as Zoning Administrator was December 18th.
Her biggest challenge in the transition, she said, will be better understanding the role she has accepted and meanwhile, helping on the Equalization side until another Deputy hired.
She is excited, however, to dig into some big projects ahead in 2024, one of the first of which is a new Big Sioux Water Treatment project. The first public hearing on the matter was held during the Commissioners previously regularly scheduled meeting.
The next public hearing on the treatment plant and the reasons for it, which include trying to meet the needs of a growing regional population and expanding farm community, is scheduled for January 16th at 9:00 a.m.
