If it’s been some time since you’ve taken a drive along South Center Street in Flandreau, it may be worth the trip in the coming weeks. A much-anticipated community project — The Warehouse indoor athletic training facility — is quickly taking shape.
The Warehouse — a planned indoor athletic training facility in Flandreau designed to provide year-round practice space for youth baseball, softball and other community sports — is coming along quickly. The project will also include an attached but separate gym and weight room space open to the community.
The entire project continues to move forward thanks to a core group of volunteers who first rallied around the idea through conversations within the Flandreau Baseball Association. Since then, the project has drawn support from a growing list of community members, businesses and donors willing to contribute both time and resources.
Among the latest supporters, after seeing the project’s progress and wanting to be part of the community’s story, are First National Bank of Sioux Falls and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines.
“FHLB allowed us to turn a $25,000 donation into $87,500,” said Bob Baker, Executive Vice President & Director of Corporate Affairs of the First National Bank.
“That will make a huge difference for this kind of project. First National Bank is proud to offer our support, and we look forward to seeing the finished facility.”
“The Warehouse has such a special story with it being built entirely through donations and volunteer work. I’m sure many of our customers and teammates will use the facility, so we’re excited to be a part of that.”
On the heels of that announcement, another generous local partner has offered The Warehouse team — and the broader Flandreau community — an opportunity to further grow the funds available through a matching donation program.
Through the end of this month (until March 31), First Bank and Trust will match any new contributions between $50 and $1,000 toward The Warehouse, totaling up to $15,000. Payment must be received by April 30.
More on the project in the coming weeks, as organizers believe they will soon be able to offer significant updates — including a possible opening date for the fitness center. A current photo of the facility is on page 3.

The new Warehouse athletic facility being constructed on South Center Street in Flandreau continues to take shape on all levels. Weather and time permitting, the siding and window installation should be completed this week.
