
BRIDGEWATER – The eighth seeded Hawks were no match for top seed Bridgewater-Emery on Tuesday in the finals of Region 3B boys basketball play.
The Hawks lost to the Huskies, 71-55.
The Huskies started out hot handed outdoing the Hawks, 23-13 after a quarter. Colman-Egan made 11 second quarter points but B-E put in 19 to put the score at 42-24 at the half. In the third quarter the Hawks attempted a comeback hitting 22 points and holding the Huskies to only 12, but a low scoring final quarter, five Hawk points, was the doom factor for them.
Junior Caden Zwart led his Hawks, who finish the season with a record of 7-15, with 23 points and three assists. Logan Claflin made 10 points shotting 4 of 5 from the field. In his final prep game, senior Julian Allen put in nine points.
Leading all scorers was Husky Holden Wollmann with 28 aided by 23 from Ben Weber.
Opening round vs. FIS
COLMAN – Colman-Egan opened regional play with a 53-44 win over the Flandreau Indian School.
The Hawks outscored the Indians in three of the fourth quarters. They led after one, 9-8 and at the half, 24-19. The netted 15 third quarter points to FIS’s eight but were held to only 14 while FIS hit 17 points, but the Hawks held on for the win.
Zwart broke loose for 25 points to lead all scorers and Allen had 11 points, seven assists and five steals. Claflin swiped down eight rebounds to lead his team and added in nine points.
The Hawks shot 44 percent from the field and were 60 percent at the free throw line. FIS hit 33 percent and made 9 of 13 from the stripe. Colman-Egan won the rebound game, 34-20.
Kaden Burshiem led FIS with 16 points and Howard Shaw put in 10. Kenton James pulled down five rebounds. FIS closed the year at 10-11. Seniors in their final game were Mason Brushbreaker, Burshiem, Adon Dean, Antonio Romeo-Hart and Aiden Teeman.
