County Deputy selected for national training

The role of serving as a law enforcement officer is different for everyone, but women in particular, can face unique challenges on the job.
Its why a social media post this past year caught his eye. A colleague from North Dakota had attended a national Women in Blue event, a training opportunity that offers advanced firearms and tactics instruction exclusively for female law enforcement officers nationwide. She couldnt say enough about the experience.
In turn, he asked one of Moody Countys newest deputies, Deputy Morgan Rein, if she might be interested to go, and turned in an application for her.
She recently learned she had been selected for a grant to go.
The opportunity, now in its ninth year, is hosted by A Girl and a Gun.
We are honored to host the incredible women of law enforcement for this transformative training experience, said Robyn Sandoval, President & CEO of A Girl & A Gun, in a press release.
Officers leave the event more confident, more skilled, and more connected to a powerful network of support.
Officers who attend receive live-fire and fore-on-force drills, clearing tactics and patrol procedures,, vehicle and obstacle-based scenarios, defensive tactics, and leadership development with female Chiefs, executives, and community leaders.
Each training block is said to mirror real-world scenarios the officers might encounter, helping sharpen both technical proficiency and mental resilience benefits that help not only those like Deputy Rein, but entire departments.
Commissioners earlier this week approved travel fees so that she can attend the November 5-8 conference.
The benefit, Wellman said, She can see other women that have not only survived but thrived in this profession. What works for men may not always work best for women so they have to adapt and this is tactics, stances, .. overall if you are taught by a woman, it may make more sense to a woman than learning from men telling them what to do.
Deputy Rein has been with the Moody County Sheriffs Department for nearly two years after graduating from Lake Area Tech.
