Flandreau 12U earns third at State

A Flandreau 12U baseball team participated in the South Dakota Veterans of Foreign Wars 12U State Tournament held July 11-13 in Hot Springs.
The team was comprised of players from both of the Flandreau 12U teams.
The local boys took third place and recorded a record of 3-2-1 on the weekend.
They opened the tourney slowly with only three team hits and ended in a 3-3 tie with BonHomme. Jett Ramsdell had two hits and Evan Hoffman, one.
To move a winner to the right side of the bracket, a coin was flipped and BonHomme won the toss putting the Flandreau team in the losers bracket.
In game two, they got their bats going with eight team hits with Hoffman and Ashdaehn Kuhnel-Smith hitting two each but the team fell short losing to host Hot Springs, 6-5.
Saturday, the boys got the momentum going in winning both games.
They defeated Parker 10-8 with 13 team hits. Hoffman and Landon Peters both had three hits and Kuhnel-Smith had two.
The next game was won over Parkston, 5-1. Ramsdell had two of the teams six hits.
In the final day of the tourney, Flandreau lost to Parkston in a rematch, 11-1. Ramsdell (2) and Sully Taylor (1) had the only hits for Flandreau.
In the third place game, Flandreau used extra innings to win 11-7. Ramsdell, Kuhnel-Smith and Hoffman all had two hits.
Pitching over the weekend were Sawyer Witte, Munro McNickle, Briggs Johnson, Hoffman, Ramsdell and Taylor.
Coaching the team were Mark Hoffman, Mike Witte, Tim Yeaton, Jason Ramsdell and Pedro Johnson.
