High School golfers get on the links

Area high school golfers started their spring season last week with a couple getting on the course at three meets. Colman-Egan, Flandreau and Flandreau Indians all have golfers this year.

Class B Classic
MITCHELL The Fliers and Indians golf team opened the season at the Class B Classic placing ninth of 20 teams on Friday, April 11.
Hanson won the team title with a low 237. Flandreau golfers scored 254.
Top Flier was Alfie Henderson shooting rounds of 38 and 39 for a 77. His teammates, Jon Burshiem and Hunter Bushkofsky had rounds of 88 and 89 respectively.
Gavin Colson of Sully Buttes was the medalist with a 71.
Golfing for Flandreau Indian School was Kaden Burshiem. He took third with a 72.

Early Bird Meet
GARRETSON Hanson took the team title at the Garretson Early Bird Meet on Tuesday, April 15.
The Beavers recorded a low 114. Flandreau came in seventh with a 130 and Colman-Egan was ninth with a 139.
Ben Wilbur of Hanson took medalist honors with a 36 tied with Alfred Frankenhoff of Chester.
Five golfers fired a 37 for the three through seven positions. Colman-Egans Taylor Kreich was third and Flandreaus Alfie Henderson came in sixth.
Other Flier golfers were Jon Burshiem with a 44 and Hunter Bushkofsky shooting a 49.
For the Hawks, Jack Whitehouse also fired a 44 and Holdyn Rentschler, a 58.
There were 72 golfers in the boys division of the meet.
For the girls, Savannah Schmidt of Colman-Egan scored 51 to place 10th.
Jayden McDonald of Chester was medalist with a 41.
The Hawks Mauryn Landis shot a 52 for 16th place and Aspen Clark recorded a 60 to round out Colman-Egans team.
St Mary won the team portion with a 134. Colman-Egan was seventh.
The lone Flier in competition was Julianna Gaspar shooting a 59.
For the Flandreau Indian School, Akira Fast Horse-Arnell shot a 66. Also golfing for FIS were Jasmine Kahbeah and Julienne Fish.

Hamlin Invitational
LAKE REGION All three teams traveled to the Lake Region Golf Course near Lake Poinsett on Thursday to play in the Hamlin Early Bird Meet.
Hamlin boys won the team title with a low 247. Flandreau was second with 258 and Colman-Egan came in eighth with 288.
Hamlins Jackson Wadsworth was medalist with a 76. Flandreau Indian Schools Kaden Burshiem took third firing an 81.
Hunter Bushkofsky was the low Flier shooting an 84 and coming in sixth folowed by Colman-Egans Taylor Kriech, also an 84.
Alfie Henderson took 10th for FHS with his score of 85 and Jon Burshiem was 16th with an 89, also for the Fliers.
Colman-Egans Jack Whitehouse finished 24th.
For the girls, Hawk Mauryn Landis shot a 99 and took 11th place and Aspen Clark came in 26th with a 119.
