The annual Girls/Boys State Sessions will be held at the end of this school year. Application forms expressing a desire to attend are available at the Academic Advisors office at FHS.
The two programs are sponsored by the SD American Legion/Legion Auxiliary. The 78th Girls State session will convene at the University of South Dakota from June 3-8, 2024, while the 81st Boys State session will be held at Northern State University May 27-31, 2024.
Any student who is completing their junior year of high school is eligible to apply for this paid opportunity. Delegates will experience a unique, exciting government-in-learning program which will help them become knowledgeable citizens of freedom, democracy and patriotism.
The two programs offer hands-on experiences which allow the young men and women to understand and appreciate our nations democratic form of government which includes the rights and responsibilities of citizenship. Delegates will take an active part in learning how city, county, and state government work to benefit all citizens. Leadership and self-confidence skills will be developed plus the extra activities give the students an opportunity to interact with each other, meet new people, and develop lasting bonds of friendship.
The Flandreau Legion and the Trent Legion/Auxiliary provide the necessary fees. Applications need to be submitted to Mr. Cleveland, Academic Advisor, by February 20th.
