Flandreau had a busy week on the softball diamond playing in two games and hosting the Flier Booster Club tournament.
Vs. Deuel
FLANDREAU – The Fliers lost to Deuel, 9-2 on Tuesday, April 28.
The Cardinals had 11 hits for their nine runs while the Fliers had quiet bats with only Nora Hamilton’s double and Aly Schepel’s single.
Schepel was in the circle for the Fliers. She struck out five and walked only one.
Vs. MCM
FLANDREAU – The Fliers took another loss at home Friday afternoon to the McCook Central/Montrose Cougars by a score of 17-3 after the Cougars had a big seven run fifth inning.
The Cougars had 15 hits off three Flier pitchers- Hamilton, Schepel and Tricia Roy. They combined for seven strike outs and only walked four.
At the plate, the Fliers got two singles from Makenzie Gregory and Ady Krull and lone singles from Hamilton and Addy Hammer.
FBC tourney
FLANDREAU – Sioux Valley was the champion of the tournament held Saturday in Flandreau City park.
Flandreau opened the tourney with a loss to the Hanson Beavers, 16-3. Again, the bats were silent with the Fliers only earning three hits although they were all extra base hits, a triple by Schepel and doubles from Hamilton and Krull.
Schepel took the pitching loss allowing 12 runs of 16 hits while walking five and striking out three.
The Fliers made five errors in the loss.
They regrouped and won over Wagner, 7-4 using 10 hits. Krull went 3 for 3 in the game, all singles. Zaeda Ross belted out a double and singles came off the bats of Elodie Amdahl, Grace Quick, Reagen Loiseau, Gregory, Hamilton and Hammer.
In the circle, Hamilton earned the win pitching a five hit game. She struck out nine.
In the final game of the tourney, the Fliers once again lost to MCM by a score of 11-3.
The Fliers got six hits including a triple off the bat of senior Hammer.
Schepel and Hamilton both pitched the game and combined for nine hits, 11 run and five left standing at the plate.
This week, Flandreau hosts Clark/Willow Lake on Tuesday and then head to Garretson on Friday and ORR on Monday.
