Plans for a proposed Colman-Egan athletic complex took another step forward last week as the Colman City Council approved annexation of property on the eastern edge of town. The land, previously zoned agricultural and a source of contention among neighboring residents, is where district officials hope to eventually build a new football field and track facility.
Neighboring residents have voiced concerns since learning about the proposed location, citing potential impacts related to traffic, noise, pedestrian access, and the property’s proximity to a slough and floodplain.
School officials have maintained that the site offers the safest and most practical location for a future athletic complex due to its proximity to the school and ease of access for students.
The project must still move through additional planning, engineering and zoning reviews before construction could begin. The annexation approval allows for site studies, infrastructure planning, permitting, cost estimates and additional public discussion to happen as the district refines its plans.
