
SIOUX FALLS – By just one-hundredth of a second, Flier senior Faith Wiese won the 3200 meter race at the 101st running of the Dakota Relays held Friday and Saturday, May 1-2 in Sioux Falls at Howard Wood. Her winning time lowered her own school record as she crossed the finish line at 10:31.56.
She was also the anchor of the second place medley relay team of Kiley Westberry and Ella Hoffman running the 200 portions and Rhegan Sheppard the 400 and Wiese taking the 800 leg and crossing the line in 4:12.66. These girls are now seeded number two in Class A for the medley.
Wiese also ran the open 1600 meter run and came in seventh against all classes. Her time was 4:59.61 and was the second fastest among Class A girls. She sits as the number two runner in Class A top performance lists.
On Friday afternoon, Flandreau’s 4×200 relay team ran to a time of 1:47.64 to place eighth. Runners were Hoffman, Westberry, Rhegan Sheppard and Morgan Sheppard. They were fifth against South Dakota Class A teams.

Just missing the top eight was the 4×400 relay team of Wiese, Rona Streitz, Rhegan Sheppard and Westberry as they came in ninth.
For the boys team, Flandreau had the squad of Sam Schmidt, Nate Hobbie, Logan Kontz and Wyatt Kontz run the 4×800. They placed 21st.
At O’Gorman
SIOUX FALLS – Several of the Flandreau Flier track and field members participated in the O’Gorman invitational on Friday.
The invite features several area teams and sees some good competition.

Girls win four events at Pat Gilligan Invite
ESTELLINE – The Pat Gilligan invitational was held on Tuesday, April 28 with a few Fliers placing both on the track and in the field.
The Flier girls team was fourth with 77 points and the Flier boys placed sixth scoring 72 points. DeSmet won the girls title with 128 and Elkton-Lake Benton secured the boys crown with 128.5 points.
For the Flier girls, Rhegan Sheppard was just an inch short of her season best effort in the triple jump, but it was far enough to win the event with a leap of 33’2”.
In the sprints, Faith Wiese ran her first open 400 of the year and recorded a time of 1:00.24 which places her top five in Class A.
Also, junior Kiley Westberry sprinted to a 200 meter win with her time of 27.64.
Taking the longer route was eighth grader Calla Wiese in the 3200 winning it in a time of 12:23.71 placing her in the top 12 performance list.
Taking third in the 100 was Ella Hoffman and sixth in the high jump, Rylah Otto. The girls did not run any relays in Estelline.
The boys were led by the foursome of Jake Hamilton, Titus Tollefson, Tate Hammer and Nathan Ross running to a second place mark of 1:39.24 in the 4×200 relay. Individually, Logan Kontz ran the longest race of the day turning in a mark of 10:56.04 in the 3200 meter run.
Luke Sheppard placed 3rd in triple jump and fourth in the 100. And the 4×400 relay team placed fourth with teammates Griffin Hemmer, Tollefson, Kalel Bamba and Ross.
