Graduation season arrives

It’s hard to believe we’re already here — another school year closing out, another group of seniors getting ready to step into whatever comes next. For parents, it never quite feels like enough time. For the students, we often hear that it feels like it took forever to get here. Somehow, both can seem true.
Graduation season is always a mix of pride, celebration and just a little bit of letting go.
At Colman-Egan, 18 seniors will walk the stage on Saturday, May 9 at 2 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. Art teacher Mrs. Megan Fritz will serve as the commencement speaker, with class speakers Brynlee Landis and Sadie McCorkle helping reflect on the journey.
The Class of 2026 has chosen the yellow tulip as its flower and leaves with a simple but fitting motto: “We didn’t realize we were making memories; we just knew we were having fun.”
At Flandreau Public Schools, graduation is set for Saturday, May 16. The commencement speaker is Middle School Principal Brian Relf and the senior speaker is Addyson Hammer. The class colors are navy blue and lilac purple and the flower is the white tulip. For their class motto, the seniors chose, “Locked in…Eventually.” There will be 46 seniors receiving their diplomas from first year superintendent Quinton Cermak.
And at Flandreau Indian School, graduation will take place Wednesday, May 6 at 10 a.m. in the FIS Auditorium. Guest speaker Mike Jetty, an Indian Education Specialist with the Montana Office of Public Instruction, brings a legacy of work tied to Indian Education for All — a reminder of the deeper purpose education can hold in preserving culture, identity and opportunity for future generations.
A note from our team: A sincere congratulations to all of our local graduates and your families — we too, celebrate you, what you have accomplished, and who you’ve become along the way. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for you.
