Tom Amburn, 94, found peace in the Lord on May 1, 2026, in Flandreau. A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau. Visitation will precede the celebration beginning at 5 p.m.
Tom was born on November 18, 1931, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Arthur and Ruth (Henton) Amburn. After graduating high school in Sioux Falls in 1950, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy until his honorable discharge in 1953.
While still in the service, he married his beloved Faye Nelson, with whom he raised four wonderful children – Kathy, Robert, Pamela and David. A hard worker, Tom moved the family according to the jobs he held, which were often related to mechanical engineering and repair and included serving as Deputy Sheriff in Moody County in 1974. He was devastated when Faye passed away in Omaha in 2004.
Tom was blessed to meet his second wife, Sharon (Scofield) Kneebone, with whom he shared 16 years of love after their marriage in September 2009.
Tom was a gifted carpenter and hobbyist. His love of music left him with thousands of CDs, of which he was very proud. He and Sharon enjoyed yardwork, family and one another.
Grateful that he is now at peace are his wife, Sharon; his children Kathy (David) Dieterman, Pamela (Adam) Rupert, David Amburn and former daughter-in-law, Cara Amburn; his stepchildren David (Tammie) Kneebone, Russell (Barb) Kneebone, Carri (Greg) Krull, Jerri (Bruce) Thoreson; 24 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.
