FLANDREAU – Pitcher Xavier Bien earned his first win on the season as the Fliers blanked Deuel, 15-0, Wednesday, April 8 on the Flandreau diamond.
Bien threw three of the four innings played and gave up a lone single while fanning eight batters and walking four.
Closing out the game was Tate Hammer in one inning’s work with a lone strike out facing three Cardinal batters.
At the plate, the Fliers picked up 10 team hits with Hammer (double) Alex Poitra and Jadon Eng each having two hits.
Besides their 10 hits, they walked 10 times to first base.
Deuel made four errors in the game and the Flier were errorless. Hammer was good on the base running stealing three and Poitra and Griffin Hemmer each stole two.
Eng and Hammer both scored two runs in the shortened game.
This week, the Fliers host Sioux Valley on Wednesday and then host Madison on Sunday. Game time is 3 p.m.
