Angie was born on the 2nd of January, 1963 in Flandreau, SD to William and Jessie Schuyler. She was a New Year’s baby! She was welcomed home to a big family full of love to give. Surrounded by her parents, siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles and many more she was adored. Her father affectionately referred to her as his “golden nugget” before his passing.
Graduating from Sioux Valley High School in Volga, Angie pursued further education at the College of Menominee Nation. Later her passion for helping people motivated her into entering the healthcare field. She spent years caring for patients all over South Dakota, from medical assisting to personal care and emergency medical services.
After graduating from high school she married her one true love, Bart Kjellsen. Together they had two sons. They separated but stayed in contact over the years, staying good friends. Sioux Falls was home for most of Angie’s life before she settled in Lennox in 2015.
Being part Oneida and part Chippewa, Angie was proud of her Native American heritage. She spent many hours dancing at Pow Wows and teaching her granddaughters the traditional dances. She also made and enjoyed Indian tacos and fry bread. On a sunny afternoon, Angie could be found gardening or going on rides with friends on their Harleys. Most of all, Angie loved time spent with her grandkids.
Angie never complained about any of her problems. She was always ready and willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed help. She went by many names, preferring to be referred to as Mom and Grandma. Her heart and arms were open, she loved unconditionally.
She fought valiantly against her cancer over many years; first diagnosed in 2015 with breast cancer, she underwent a double mastectomy. Later the cancer came back and became metastatic. She tried every type of treatment she could to prolong her time with her loved ones.
Angie found solace in her faith, in her time of need she turned to God, it was God who gave her a comfort no one else could. She frequented the Faith Presbyterian Church in Lennox, SD.
Angie is survived by her sons, Justin (Tina) Kjellsen of Humboldt, and Jared (Amber) Kjellsen of Lennox; step-children, Bryant Kjellsen of Centerville and Rochelle Kjellson (Adam) of Centerville; friends who were like parents to her, John & Francella Neuman of Chester; siblings, William “Billy Joe” Schuyler of Georgia, Judith Koob of Madison, Janice Bohling of Aberdeen, and LuAnn Smith of Washington; grandchildren, Echoe, Erika “Pickle”, Joslynn, and Wyatt; step-grandchildren, Zane, Tynon and Kyler. Angie affected so many people in her life by her caring, loving ways so she became “mom, auntie, sister, grandma” to so many people who adored, loved, and respected her and she felt the same about them. She battled cancer for nine years and never complained nor gave up her fight. She wanted to be here for her family and all other loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Donald and sisters Betty and Sharon.
Let us remember the way she lived and live in her light.
