Chester foils Lady Hawks undefeated season

CHESTER – Chester’s Flyer girls basketball took control early and often and stunned the previously undefeated Hawks last Thursday in a battle of top 10 rated teams.
The Flyers came out hot scoring four 3-pointers and raced to a 21-9 opening quarter lead and were never threatened in the 53-38 win. The Hawks couldn’t handle the sticky defense and hot shooting from the Flyers.
After a half of playing time, the Flyers led, 37-23. But the Hawks were held again to low scoring in the second half hitting only a pair of baskets and two free throws in each of the final two quarters.
In the effort, Brynlee Landis was the top Hawk scorer netting 21 points. Jolie Flatten and Quinn Meyer were held to only five points each.
The Flyers were led by three players in double digits. Emmerson Eppard led her team with 23 points followed by 13 from Katelyn Schut and 12 from Jacy Wolf.
The Hawk loss closed out the regular season at 19-1.
They’ll be the number two seed in Region 3B. Ethan is the number one seed and both the Rustlers and the Hawks had byes when Regional play began on Monday, Feb. 23. They were to face the winner of # 7 Howard and #10 Sioux Falls Lutheran on Tuesday.
Winners of Tuesday’s game will play Thursday for the chance to advance to the SoDak 16 next week at a neutral site.
