Wiese second; team sixth at State Cross Country

HURON Faith Wiese closed out her high school cross country career with a second place finish and the Flier girls team finished sixth at the SDHSAA Class A Girls Cross Country meet held at Broadland Creek Golf Course, Saturday, October 25.
Wieses silver medal time was 17:41.72, nine seconds behind one of her most frequent and familiar competitors, Ellie Maddox of Sioux Falls Christian. Her time was 17:31.6.
The Fliers tallied 124 points for their sixth place award. SFC won with a low 13, West Central was second at 70, Chamberlain was third at 106, Hill City came in fourth with 114 and Lennox just edged the Fliers for fifth at 122 points
Helping Wiese score those points were her sister, Calla Wiese, who took 16th place with a time of 19:29.25 and Kiley Westberry with a time of 21:12.36 who came in the chute in 63rd.
Also running for the Fliers in their first state meet were Tenley LeBrun, 76th, Geneis Martinez Soto, 103rd and Willow Stephens, 112th.
The Fliers brought Logan Kontz who came in 36th (17:34.97) and Nathaniel Hobbie in 50th (17:54.14) to participate in the boys Class A division. Tate Grabow of Hill City won the 5000 meter race clocking a time of 15:42 which was 33 second ahead of the runner-up place winner.
Flandreau Indian Schools boys team were in the Class B division. Top finisher was Kenton James who finished the race in 18:58.6 for 53rd.
Also running were Shaw Howard, 56th, Antoino Romeo Hart, 98th, Kaden Burshiem 106th and Mason Brushbreaker, 115th.
Silas Holderman of Mitchell Christian won the race in a time of 16:16.94. Philip won the team title with a low 12 points. FIS finished 15th in the team standings.
Colman-Egan had a lone entry in the girls Class B race. Isabelle Lee finished the course in 52nd position with a time of 22:11.19.
Ella Boekelheide of Northwestern won the meet with a time of 18:44.27 and Ipswich won the title with 18 points.
