John W. Headrick, age 92

John W. Headrick, 92, passed away October 9, 2025, at Sibley Specialty Care, Sibley, IA.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Sioux Falls, SD.
John was born November 23, 1932, at Flandreau, SD to James and Cora (Jones) Headrick, Sr. He started his education at Moody County country schools. That school closed in 1943 and then he attended the Stafford elementary school and then went on to graduate from Flandreau High School with the class of 1950. John was in the Army from 1954 1956 when he was honorably discharged. He then moved to Sioux Falls, SD where he met and married Shirley A. Grotjohn in May of 1957. Together they had three children, Tammie, Kimberly, and Kevin. They lived outside Brookings for a while before moving back to Sioux Falls. They later divorced.
John was united in marriage with Marilyn J (Griswold) Kristensen on June 8, 1973, in Sioux Falls, SD. Marilyn added her children to this family, Michael, Bradley, and Shelby.
John drove Taxi for a time, worked for the State of South Dakota as an Engineer as well as Sayre & Associates and later for Midwestern Energy for many years before retiring in 1994. After retirement he mowed golf courses and other odd jobs to keep himself busy. He was a member of First Christian Church where he served as deacon. He was a member of the American Legion and Sertoma. John loved spending time with family and especially enjoyed spending winters in Arizona with Marilyn for 20 years. He enjoyed going for coffee with the guys.
Grateful for having shared his life are his daughter, Kimberly (Robert) Wiertzema, Little Rock, IA, Kevin Headrick, Sioux Falls, SD; his step-children, Michael (Tammy) Kristensen, Oglesby, IL, Bradley (Cathy) Kristensen, White City, OR, Shelby Norgaard & Partner-Robert McCaskill Jr, Hutchinson, MN; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Lois Sorenson and many other relatives and friends.
John was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Marilyn Headrick, his daughter, Tammie Schwebach, his parents, and siblings Vernon, Jimmy, Claire, Clifford, Richard, Blanche, Marjorie, Mildred, and Nadine.
