Runners race at Clyde Cotton

HURON Huron hosted the annual Clyde Cotton Cross Country meet on Saturday and the Calla Wiese took top honors for the Flandreau Flier varsity girls team. The races were held at Broadland Creek Golf Course
The Flier eighth grader took 12th in a field of 99 runners, mostly Class AA teams. Wiese came in the chute in 20:08.42 to earn a medal. Her only other varsity teammate was also an eighth grader, Tenley LeBrun, who ran a time of 22:05.30 to come in 48th. With only a pair of varsity runners, the Fliers were not in contention for team honors.
The Flier boys ran three runners who all came in the chute in a pack. Sam Schmidt was 59th (18:27.21), Nate Hobbie finished 60th (18:38.21 and Logan Kontz was 61st (18:40.04) over the 5000 meter course. There were 115 runners in the race.
The JV teams were led by the boys with Wyatt Kontz taking 13th, Teague Bergjord 30th, Creighton Arnett 61 and Owen Kelm, 77th.
The girls had five runners. Dreamer Cournoyer was 24th, Hailey Lahr, 36, Rona Streitz 41st, Isabel Kulm, 45 and Ivy Wegner, 50.
There was a middle school division and Flandreau entered nine runners in the 2900 meter race. Tayte Joachims was sixth and Willow Stephens took seventh in the boys and girls races respectively. Also running were Molly Kelm, Lillyann Frias, Wakinyan Brushbreaker, Munro McNickle, Nieko Bietz, Etzio Bulit and Sean Halter.
