The spring election season is quickly approaching and those looking to run for a city or school board position in any local municipality have until 5:00 p.m. February 23rd to turn in a petition to run for office.
Spring elections for municipalities and local school boards are scheduled this year for April 9th. A full ballot preview will be published in this paper the week prior to the election.
One caveat to that this year in Moody County will be the City of Trent. The City officially voted this past month to combine with Moody County in the June South Dakota State and Presidential Primary. The move is primarily seen as both a personnel and cost-saving measure, however the city will share agreed upon expenses with the county.
What will be on the ballot for Trent is yet to be determined, a notice of vacancies should be available in the coming weeks. The petition filing deadline for open seats in Trent as well as county candidates is March 26th.
