Two Hawks Volleyball Club teams from Colman-Egan won the championships of their bracket at the West Central Volleyball Tourney on Saturday, April 13.

VOLGA – Sioux Valley had 13 hits and didn’t give up a hit to Flandreau on Monday as the Cossacks beat the Fliers 18-3 in four innings.

CHESTER - Colman-Egan’s girls team won the Chester track meet on Tuesday, April 9. The girls scored 126.5 to win and did so without a first place finish.

The 2023 high school basketball season has concluded, which means it’s time to announce this year’s Brookings Register All-Register girls basketball team.

Nine years ago there was a student in Megan Severtson’s class that loved South Dakota State basketball. She showed up every day dressed in Jackrabbits gear from head to toe and her love for the sport was apparent even as a third grader.

The 2023-24 basketball season has come to a close and it’s time to announce the All-Register boys basketball teams. The team is made up of area schools including Brookings, Sioux Valley, Deubrook Area, Elkton-Lake Benton, Arlington, Iroquois/Lake Preston, Estelline-Hendricks, Colman-Egan, Flandreau, and Oldham-Ramona Rutland.

HAYTI – At the Hamlin Invitational Golf meet held April 11 at Lake Region Golf Course, Madison Bushkofsky was the lone Flandreau Flier contender and shot good enough to place second. She fired a 48, 11 over par and just two over the winner, Brynn Roehrich of Clark/Willow Lake, for her runner-up score.

VOLGA – The Flandreau Flier girls tied with host Sioux Valley at the Brace-Hopfinger Relays on Tuesday, April 9 in Volga. Flandreau and the Cossacks each scored 101 points. Great Plains Lutheran won the invite with 106 points.

FLANDREAU – The Flandreau softball team improved to 3-4 on Thursday night as the Fliers swept a doubleheader against Milbank. They won the first game 7-0 and the second game 19-7.

Local area teams end their basketball seasons.

BROOKINGS – The spring track season hit full stride as the Flandreau Fliers took a few of their athletes to compete at the Scott Underwood Invitational at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex on April 1.

Both of the Colman-Egan track and field teams took fifth place at the Estelline/Hendricks Sno Bird meet on Thursday, April 4.

The Flandreau Fliers got a big day at the plate from Sadie Iott, but her four hits and five RBI weren’t enough to defeat Chester in a 13-11 loss on Friday afternoon.
