Mary L. Jorgensen, 78, of Ward, SD, passed away Friday, January 11, 2019 at the Flandreau Hospital.
Mary Louise Lawrence was born May 8, 1940 in Yankton, SD, to Albert E. and Aletha S. (Gilliand) Lawrence. They lived in various homes in the Clay and Yankton County area and attended Assembly of God Church. Mary met the love of her life, Ronald F. Jorgensen, in the spring of 1964 in the Vermillion area. They were married August 8, 1964 at the First United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls, SD. They farmed near Burbank, SD, until buying a farm in 1968 northeast of Flandreau where Mary still lived. Ron farmed and Mary was a homemaker. She liked being home, although Ron did get her to travel once the kids were out of the house. Mary worked for quite a while at the casino in Flandreau. She enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, games, crafts and baking.
Mary is survived by five children, Fern (Edward) Boll and Tom (Cyndi) Jorgensen, both of Ward, SD; Audrey (Ronald) Misiura, Princeton, MN; Allan (Zülbiye) Jorgensen, Byron, MN; Jannelle (Thomas) Nickel, Pipestone, MN; 18 grandchildren, Jason, Joshua, Jared, Joanna, Josiah, Bryan, Brandon, Rachael, Andrew, Michael, Emily, Timothy, Daniel, Rosie, Nicholas, Maia, Logan, Layton; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and four siblings,
Delpha Stockwell and Harold Lawrence, both of Sioux Falls; Ernest (Pam) Lawrence and Joyce (Alvin) Mares, both of Lincoln, NE; and several nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Ron, an infant son, grandson Chris Gandee, great-grandson Luke Jorgensen and seven siblings, David, Frances, Alice, Albert, Wilbert, Delbert and Geraldine (Tooty).
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 18, 2019 at the First Baptist Church, Elkton, with burial in the Dell Rapids Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau, with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service
