ACS style show is Sunday

The Moody County chapter of the American Cancer Society will host a fall fashion show on Sunday, September 24.

“Family Fashions for the Fight” will begin at 2 p.m. with registration for survivors beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the William J. Janklow Community Center in Flandreau.

This event will feature local men, women and children who have survived cancer as models for the show as well as caregivers and family members of survivors.

For the past few years, the chapter has hosted a Sole Burner 5k walk/run in town, but decided to change things up for the 2017 event.

“We just thought it was time to do something different,” said one of the event organizers Cynthia Johnson.

“Those of us [who taught] in the elementary school had put on two style shows in the past. … We thought we would try something like that.”

Models will be wearing fashions from Geyerman’s Clothing Co. in Pipestone. Johnson said the store had done style shows for other entities and also worked with the school in Flandreau for the previous shows.

“Somebody there will help them choose something to model, something that would look nice on them,” Johnson said.

The clothes will be brought to the community center the day of the event and models will have a choice to buy the apparel or return it.

In addition to the style show, the event will also feature a silent auction, door prizes and tribute flags, which will be available for a minimum $5 donation. Blue flags are to remember those for their fight against cancer and red flags are for those living who have battled cancer.

Stacie Suedkamp from the Bean and Vine will also be giving a cookie class on the day of the show.

Cost to attend “Family Fashions for the Fight” is $10 per person and includes light refreshments and a chance for door prizes.

“We just want to have it be an uplifting event,” Johnson said.
