For the first time in 16 years, the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe will have a new tribal council president.
Longtime Tribal Treasurer Ryan Kills-A-Hundred was elected to lead the tribe Saturday, defeating current Trustee David Ross 123-97, according to unofficial results released by the FSST Election Board.
Kills-A-Hundred will succeed Tony Reider, who has served as tribal president since 2010. Reider did not seek another term as president but had hoped to remain involved on the Executive Committee as Trustee III.
Kenneth Weston, who will return to the council, won that seat with 133 votes, while Reider received 83. The result means Reider will no longer have a seat at the council table after his current term ends.
Just over 200 tribal members participated in Saturday’s election, with 220 ballots cast in three of the four races and 221 in the Trustee I contest.
Angeline Eastman was elected tribal secretary with 123 votes, defeating Francis Wakeman III, who received 89.
Jessica Hovland won the Trustee I seat with 123 votes, while incumbent Kristi Bietz received 94.
