Play Sunday at 11 a.m. against Larchwood, IA team

HUMBOLDT – Flandreau’s Cardinal amateur baseball team earned their way into the Class B State Tournament which begins for them Sunday at Cadwell Field in Mitchell.
In the District 4B tourney, the Cardinals lost to Humboldt/Hartford’s Wood Ducks, 8-6 but came back and won over Canova, 15-8.
The 32 team single elimination state tournament opened today, August 5. Flandreau is scheduled to play Sunday against Larchwood, IA at 11 a.m.
Wood Ducks
Due to the threat of rain on Thursday, July 30, the Cardinals and the Wood Ducks moved their game up a day.
The Cardinals tied the game at five in the third inning, but couldn’t hold on for the win taking the 8-6 loss.
H/H outhit Flandreau 10 to 4. Earning those hits were Mitch Foster, Paul Clark, Luke Gassman and Jacolby Anderson – all singles.
Austin Koenig, Austin King, Gassman and Clark were credited with an RBI.
Flandreau used five pitchers in the game. JC Morales was the starter throwing an inning and allowing three hits and five runs. He was relieved by Noel Burgos for three and a third innings followed by Jacolby Anderson for two outs.
Paul Clark pitched two innings and Bret Severtson pitched one.
Gang
The Cardinals came from seven runs down to defeat Canova using 14 runs in the sixth and eighth innings to get the 15-8 win on Friday.
Jacolby Anderson, King and Keith Culter were all chalked up for doubles and Foster earned three hits including a home run for three RBI. The Cardinals garnered 15 hits while holding the Gang to eight.
Curt Anderson was marked for the three runs in his inning and a third’s work. He only gave up one hit, but walked four Gang players in those innings. Burgos was recorded for three runs and Morales, two.
