Cardinals move on in District 4B play with wins over Baltic, Dell Rapids

HUMBOLDT – The Cardinals won then lost in District 4B tourney play held over the weekend at Bob Needles Field in Humboldt.
Flandreau won over Baltic on Friday and then lost to the Dells Mudcats Saturday evening.
Next up, Flandreau faces the three seeded Humboldt/Hartford Wood Ducks on Thursday, July 30 at 6 p.m.

Riverdawgs
A rematch of the final regular season game, the Cardinals were victorious in their opening game of the District 4B tourney being held at Bob Needles Field in Humboldt.
Flandreau defeated Baltic, 12-2 in eight innings. The Cardinals held the Riverdawgs scoreless for six straight innings while picking up nine runs for themselves.
Bret Severtson pitched all eight innings giving up two runs off five hits and struck out 12 Baltic batters. He walked only two.
At the plate, the Cardinals collected eight hits led by a pair of singles each from Luke Gassman, Kasen Grengs, Austin Koenig and Severtson who along with Gassman had three RBI each.
Mudcats
Saturday, the Dell Rapids Mudcats jumped out to seven first innings scores and dribbled in a run each in the next four inning to be the victors over the Cardinals, 11-1.
Kasen Grengs was the losing pitching allowing 10 runs off nine hits – including a home run – while only striking out one Mudcat. Jarad Wagner was the reliever for two innings of work allowing one hit and one unearned run.
In the batter’s box, the Cardinals could only muster up four hits with Severtson and Jacob Patterson each having a double along with Patterson’s single and another from Beau Severtson.
The Cardinals struck out eight times to the Mudcats’ once.
