Blue Teal lose out in Districts

HUMBOLDT – The Flandreau Blue Teal were sent home from the District 4B tourney after losing two straight games.
The ninth seeded Blue Teal lost to Salem on Friday and then Hartford/Humboldt’s Wood Ducks on Sunday. They close their second season with a 7-15 record.
Salem
In a battle of 8 versus 9, the 8th seed team prevailed in the opening game of the District 4B amateur baseball tournament going on now in Humboldt.
The Flandreau Blue Teal came back with three runs in the top of the ninth inning, but it wouldn’t be enough as they lost to Salem, 5-4.
Salem plated three runs in the fifth to open the game’s scoring and added a run in both the sixth and eighth innings.
Flandreau had a lone run in the seventh and went into the top of the ninth trailing 5-1, but could only get three more runs resulting in the loss.
On the mound, Tash Lunday pitched all eight innings and fanned 11 Cubs and finished with an ERA of three but took the loss.
Hits were few in the contest with the Cubs earning seven hits off Lunday while Blue Teal were only able to hit four times and walked five.
Mason Riley recorded two hits – a triple and a single for two RBI and Michael Witte batted a double.

Wood Ducks
The loss dropped the Teal down in the bracket where they next faced the Humboldt/Hartford Wood Ducks, earlier upset by the fourth seed, the Gang from Canova.
The Teal couldn’t keep pace with the Ducks losing 12-4 in blistering heat and high humidity Sunday afternoon.
