The Flandreau Blue Teal split action last week to close out the regular amateur baseball season with a 6-13 record and will be the ninth seed in District 4B post-season play which begins Friday in Humboldt. They closed the Corn Belt League at 5-13. They’ll face eighth seed Salem at 6 p.m. Friday. A win puts them against the top top seed Dells PBR Saturday at 5 p.m.
Gamecocks
FLANDREAU – A good Hartford/Humboldt team stopped the Teal on Thursday at home, 11-2. The Blue Teal had a tough time at the plate striking out 14 times in 37 appearances.
Mason Riley was the leader of the Flandreau squad batting 3 for 5, all one-base hits. He collected one RBI and Tash Lunday’s single scored the other. Runs were made by Matthew Gassman and Tyton Peters.
Tristan Peters got the loss giving up eight hits with two over the fence and five runs. He failed to earn a strike out against the Gamecocks. He was relieved by a trio of Teal, Sam Gassman, Micah Otto and Kolby Peters who combined for six each in hits, runs and strikeouts over six innings.
The Blue Teal only walked three times throughout the nine innings.
PBR
DELL RAPIDS – The Blue Teal ended the regular season with a win over the Dell Rapids PBR club on Sunday evening, 13-12, by breaking a tie in the top of the ninth.
Flandreau outhit Dells 14-10 as Kolby Peters (4 RBI) and Emmott Nathan (5 RBI) each homered in the game. Peters and Dane Mediger both had three hits. Earning a double was Micah Otto and Peters.
Nathan started on the mound throwing three and two-thirds innings and gave up three home runs before being relieved by Mason Riley. But it was Tash Lunday who got the mound win for his two innings of work. Altogether, the pitchers struck out nine PBR players, walked seven, allowed 10 hits and 12 runs.
