School officials from Flandreau Indian School are inviting potential students, families and the wider community in for a closer look at the school and the work still happening to strengthen the student experience.
A community open house is planned from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 23, at the Wicoicaga Otipi on the FIS campus.
The school continues working to rebuild enrollment following the COVID-19 pandemic years. Student numbers have rebounded significantly, but school leaders hope to continue that growth.
Investments have been made in just the past couple of years across campus to improve students’ quality of life and provide more programs, activities and opportunities while they are away from home.
The open house will begin with an opportunity to meet FIS administrators, teachers, counselors, staff, current students and families. A multimedia presentation from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. will highlight academics, career and technical education, college and career readiness, athletics, student activities, residential life, Native culture and traditions, student support services and special education.
From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., staff will answer questions, discuss academic and residential programs and help families with enrollment applications.
School officials will also share information about transportation options being explored with Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribal leadership.
