
The Cardinals closed the regular season of amateur baseball with a 6-12 mark and now prepare for the District 4B tournament. Humboldt will host the tourney which begins Friday. The Cardinals are the seventh seed and will play #10 Baltic, Friday at 8 p.m. A win will match them with two seed, DR Mudcats.
Riverdawgs
BALTIC– The Cardinals were to play Baltic Thursday but a mix up in scheduling moved the game to Sunday afternoon ahead of Flandreau’s home game against the Mudcats.
At Baltic, the Cardinals picked up a 12-8 win in seven innings.
Flandreau pounded out 15 hits mostly singles which created nine RBI. JC Morales led with three and Jacob Patterson scored three runs. He also had the lone extra base hit for the Cardinals with a double and coupled that with two singles.
Flandreau never trailed in the game and used three pitchers in the affair. Bret Severtson was the starter and was relieved in the sixth inning by Drew Weber who was hit hard. Weber could only get one out but allowed four runs off five hits. Curt Anderson came in to settle it down and finished the final inning a two-thirds with four strikeouts.
Mudcats
FLANDREAU – After playing the Riverdawgs, the Cardinals packed up for home and hosted the Dell Rapids Mudcats but closed the season with an 11-3 loss after earning only seven hits.
JC Morales was the starter throwing three innings before being relieved by Noel Burgos for two and two-thirds. Kasen Grengs finished the pitching duties. The Cardinals could only strikeout four Mudcats while allowing 12 hits and 11 runs.
At the plate, Austin Koenig went 2 for 2 with a pair of singles.
