Hawks bat to third in DVC tourney

COLMAN – Colman-Egan lost the middle of three games to a highly rated Castlewood team but swung their way back to third place in the Dakota Valley Conference softball tourney held May 18 at the Field of Dreams near Colman.
The Hawks defeated Elkton/Lake Benton in the opening game, 7-3, lost to the Warriors 14-0 and then defeated Arlington 16-7 placing third.

Vs. ELB
The Hawks opened with three runs, added one in the second and three more in the third in their 7-3 win over the Elks.
Bella Grann and Harper Mousel both had a double to lead the Hawks. Three one-base hits came off the bat of Maebe Groos in four at bats. Sadie McCorkle and Grann both had a pair of RBI. As a team, they stole 10 bases.
Chloe Schmidt got the pitching win by allowing only two hits and one run. Mousel pitched three innings surrendering three hits and two runs. They combined for four strike outs.

Vs. Castlewood
One of the tougher teams in Class B, Castlewood, blanked the Hawks 14-0 in the semi-finals using a 13 run third inning.
The Hawks had a tough time getting the bats going with only four singles by Schmidt, Groos, Chloe Bryan and Brianne Bowen.
Schmidt gave up all 14 runs off 13 hits and struck out and walked three batters respectively.

Vs. Arlington
Colman-Egan got back into the win column and took the third place game over Arlington 16-7 in five innings.
Schmidt again handled the pitching duties using a series of sevens. She allowed the seven runs off seven hits and struck out seven Cardinals.
At the plate, Bowen hit 3 for 4 (triple and 2 singles) with three RBI and also scored two runs. Turning in a duo of triples was Sarah Voelker who also scored four runs and had two RBI to her credit. Mousel swatted out a triple and doubles came off the bats of Carlee Farris, Bryan and Kinley Giegle.
The Hawks garnered 15 hits.
