The Flier track and field team spent two days last week competing in extreme South Dakota wind hosting the Lake Central Conference meet and traveling to Parker for the Big East Conference meet. This week, Flandreau was at Hamlin on Monday and then at the Last Chance Meet at Tri-Valley Schools on Thursday.
The top 24 performances in each event advance to the State Meet held May 28-30. As of now, the Fliers will have several participants at state. More on that in next week’s Enterprise.

LCC meet
FLANDREAU – Both Flier teams got a pair of first place wins with each win in a relay and an individual event at the LCC Track and Field meet held Tuesday, May 12 at Barnes-Evans Track complex here.
It was the first and only home meet for the Fliers this season. The Flandreau boys team came in fourth with 88 points and the girls were fifth at 65.
Sioux Valley won the boys LCC title with 170 points, Deuel was second at 135, DeSmet, third at 105 followed by the Fliers. Coming in sixth was Clark/Willow Lake with 80 and Castlewood with 71 finished seventh.
A loaded Clark/Willow Lake team won the girls LCC with 206 points. Taking seconds was DeSmet at 146.33, Sioux Valley took third 115 and Deuel was fourth with 94.33 points. Following the fourth place Fliers were Hamlin and Castlewood with 35.33 and 35 points respectively.
Participating in their last meet on their home Flandreau track or field were seniors Franklin Donis Castillo, Ella Hoffman, Elijah Johnson, Wyatt Kontz, Hailey Lahr, Willian Lone Bear, Shannon Roubideaux, Luke Sheppard and Faith Wiese.
Faith Wiese won the 1600 meter run in a time of 5:00.38 and then anchored the winning 4×400 relay with team members Kiley Westberry, Rona Streitz and Rhegan Sheppard. Their time was 4:07.16.

On the boys side, medley team members Jacob Mohr, Titus Tollefson, Jake Hamilton and Wyatt Kontz were first clocking a time of 3:54.07. Also winning gold was Nathan Ross in the high jump at 5’10”.

BEC Meet
PARKER – The Fliers were non-participants in several events at the Big East Conference meet held May 14 at Parker High School. Temperatures were great for the meet, but the wind played a large role as gusts were in the 30-40 mph throughout the day.
Sioux Valley won the boys event with 138 points and Chester took the girls scoring 153 points.
The Flier boys came in seventh with 60.5 points and the girls placed sixth with 67.
The lone gold individual medal came from Faith Wiese’s 800 meter run. She clocked a time of 2:17.02 to win that race.
In the only relay entered on the day, Ella Hoffman, Rona Streitz, Rhegan Sheppard and Kiley Westberry took the 4×400 with a time of 4:08.19.
