The Flier high school baseball team suffered three losses in four games last week, splitting time on the road and at home.
ELKTON – The Blue Sox got the best of the Fliers with a five run fifth in a game Wednesday, May 6 taking the win 7-1.
Tyton Peters started on the mound throwing the first inning and two-thirds giving up six runs of as many hits and walking four. Cousin Trevor Peters went the rest of the game with no hits and one run.
In the batter’s box, the Fliers were only able to get four hits off the bats of Alex Poitra, Tucker Hemmer, Xavier Bien (triple) and Tyton Peters. Bien got the RBI.
MILBANK – The Fliers took a long trip to Milbank on Saturday and the Bulldogs fired up in the second inning with all of their runs coming at once taking a 14-4 win.
The Fliers used four pitchers on the mound but starter Brody Johnson recorded the loss in an inning and one-third. The Bulldogs got only two hits but Johnson walked two and was charged with five runs.
The Fliers then used Trevor Peters and Jake Hamilton for an out each and together they allowed the Bulldogs nine runs off four hits. Estephan Nelson closed out the final two innings only giving up a pair of walks. Flier pitchers could only strike out one Bulldog.
In their effort, the Fliers garnered seven hits with three each coming off the bats of Xavier Bien and Tate Hammer with Hammer getting a double.
FLANDREAU – Sunday, Flandreau hosted the same two teams taking a loss to ELB but got a win over Milbank.
The Fliers outhit the Blue Sox 12-9 but couldn’t come from behind to get a win.
Alex Poitra got three singles in his three at bats and earned an RBI. Seniors Jadon Eng and Xavier Bien along with junior Tate Hammer all got two-base hits.
Hammer was the losing pitcher throwing six and a third inning. He gave up all nine hits and the four runs while striking out six. Trevor Peters got two outs.
In the final game of the weekend, Flier got the better of Milbank and earned a 9-7 win using 12 hits while holding the visitors to only three.
The Fliers had a big six run inning to come from behind. Alex Poitra got the extra base hits getting a double and a triple while Tate Hammer got three RBI off three hits with one a home run.
The Peters cousins pitched the win.
The 3-8 Fliers were to host Garretson on Monday in preparation for the ending of the regular season.
