To the Editor

To the Flandreau Flier Fans,

Hello and happy spring! I hope you Flandreau folk are enjoying this green, growing, and warmer weather these days.
Our Flandreau Track and Field student athletes are off to a strong start in all their running, jumping, and throwing events and we look forward to what the end of April and May have in store for the team.
This coming weekend is the Howard Wood 101st Annual Dakota Relays in Sioux Falls on Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2, where top track and field athletes compete from around the state and region.
Each year Howard Wood has two special events where they take the very best athletes from all classes in South Dakota and also invite remarkably talented individuals from North Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Iowa. To make the top nine (eight starters and an alternate) in a Howard Wood special event is indeed an exceptional honor.
Flandreau Senior Faith Wiese has been notably selected as the alternate for the special 800, and in all the years of Flandreau Track and Field, I don’t know of a time where a Flandreau athlete has been selected for the Howard Wood Dakota Relays special event, until now. Faith’s God given talent, resilience, coachability, and accomplishments in XC (shout out to Coach Brendan Streitz!) and T&F show that she has earned this spot in the top nine at Howard Wood in the Special 800.
If one of the top eight athletes drops, she will run in the Special 800 at 7:10 Friday night (but show up early in case they run ahead of schedule), and if she doesn’t run that event, she will still be in a loaded field for the all classes 3200 run (she’s ranked #4 out of all SD classes!) at 7:50 Friday night.
Also, our Flier gals seek to defend their Howard Wood Sprint Medley Relay record from last year (4:10.76 set by the blazing quartet of Ella Hoffman, Morgan Sheppard, Kiley Westberry, and Faith Wiese) which will be at 10:03 on May 2, Saturday morning.
We also hope to have more guy and gal relays and open events competing over the weekend, so stay tuned for more updates. I hope you can get out there, watch some great T&F competition, and rowdily cheer on the Flandreau Fliers in Sioux Falls. God bless, stay mega legit rad, and go Fliers!
