Fliers see tough foes on the diamond

FLANDREAU – The Flier baseball team’s record fell to 1-2 with losses to Sioux Valley on Wednesday, April 15 and to Madison on Sunday, April 19.
Vs. Sioux Valley
The Fliers outhit the Cossacks 9 to 5, but committed three errors in the 8-5 home loss.
Flandreau got on the board with a pair of runs in the second inning, but the Cossacks put up four runs in the top of the third to lead. In the bottom of the fifth, the Fliers regained the lead with three runs going up 5 to 4, but Sioux Valley added four runs in the final two frames for the victory.
At the plate, Alex Poitra was 3 for 4 hitting four singles. He also scored two runs along with Tate Hammer. First baseman Tyton Peters and catcher Jadon Eng both had two RBI. All nine Flier hits were singles.
Xavier Bien started on the mound but was replaced in the fourth inning by Trevor Peters. Combined, they struck out 10 Cossacks and walked 10.
Vs. Madison
Sunday afternoon, the Fliers hosted a good Madison team and were shut out 11-0 in five innings.
Flandreau was only able to get two hits, singles by Tate Hammer and Brayson Gould. The team committed four errors.
Hammer got the call for the first four innings giving up four runs off three hits and three walks. His relief, Brody Johnson, gave up the other seven runs off three hits and two walks. They combined to strike out four Bulldogs.
This week, the Fliers are at Sioux Valley Wednesday at 5:30 and will host Milbank Sunday at 2 p.m. Then Tuesday, April 28, they’ll travel to Madison for a 5:30 contest.
