ELKTON – The Flier girls came away with five first place medals from the Vince Relays in Elkton Friday, April 10 giving them a fast start to the 2026 outdoor track and field season.
The team finished in 3rd place (69 points) behind Milbank (138) and Sioux Valley (103) while the boys came in fourth (63).
Host Elkton-Lake Benton boys team won their own invite with 117.33 points with Milbank second (102) and Sioux Valley third (93.83).
Other teams at the meet were Great Plains Lutheran, Webster Area, Estelline-Hendrick, Madison and Oldham-Ramona-Rutland.
For the medal winning girls, Morgan Sheppard won the 100 and 200, Kiley Westberry took the 400 and Faith Wiese crossed first in the 800. Winning the 4×400 were Wiese, Westberry, Rona Streitz and Rhegan Sheppard.
Top finisher for the boys was Luke Sheppard in the triple jump and the 4×200 and 4×400 relays who all finished second. Relay members were Tate Hammer, Wyatt Kontz, Griffin Hemmer and Jake Hamilton and in the 4×400 were Jacob Mohr, Jake Hamilton, Kontz and Sam Schmidt.
