The Colman-Egan Hawks took a couple of losses last week on the softball diamond dropping games to Florence-Henry and Alcester-Hudson.
WATERTOWN – Florence-Henry came out on top 12-2 in a softball match-up with Colman-Egan, Tuesday, April 7.
F-H compiled eight hits in the five inning game compared to the Hawks’ three.
The Hawks led after an inning, 2-1, thanks to a two RBI triple by Chloe Schmidt before F-H drove in three runs in the second and six in the third. Also getting a hit were Chloe Bryan and Sarah Voelker, both singles.
Schmidt took the loss hurling four innings. She struck out 10, but walked nine.
Elizabeth Reiter was the winning pitcher striking out nine Hawk batters and walking four.
ALCESTER – There was no shortage of runs at Alcester, but a strong final two innings by the Cubs helped them outlast the Hawks, 31-21.
The Hawks held a 21-10 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth when the Cubs came alive with 14 runs and then added seven more in sixth.
Chloe Schmidt, three doubles, and Kinley Giegle, a pair of doubles and a single, both batted 3 for 3 with Schmidt leading the team with four RBI.
Pitcher Harper Mousel belted out a solo home run and Brienne Bowen got two extra base hits with a double and triple.
Also hit a two bagger was Sarah Voelker. The Hawks had 17 stolen bases.
Harper Mousel took the loss allowing all runs, 22 hits with a low three strike outs.
Twenty-eight batters walked during the game with Mousel giving up 16 of those.
Emily Winquist was the winner throwing all six innings. She allowed 17 C-E hits and struck out five.
The Hawks have a busy week on tap with one home and five road games. Wednesday, they’re at Chester, Thursday at Elkton-Lake Benton and Friday they’ll be in Howard matched up with Bridgewater-Emery at 5:15 and Howard at 7 p.m. Next Monday, they’ll see action on their home field hosting Deubrook at 5 p.m. but Tuesday, they’re back on the road at Kingsbury County for a 5 p.m. game in DeSmet.
