Drug Take Back Day set for April 25

If it’s been a while since you’ve really dug into your bathroom or kitchen cabinets, now might be the time.
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is set for Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event offers a simple, no-questions-asked way to get rid of old or unused medications — and there’s a good chance you’ve got some tucked away.
Of concern, officials say, is that leftover pills can be misused or accidentally taken, especially by kids or visitors.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, along with local partners, hosts drop-off sites across the region so medications can be safely collected and disposed of. Over the past 16 years, more than 20 million pounds have been collected nationwide.
Accepted items include tablets, capsules, patches and other prescription drugs. Liquids like cough syrup should be sealed in their original containers. Syringes and illegal drugs will not be accepted.
Locally, the drop-off sites are the Moody County Sheriff’s Office or at Lewis Drug during regular business hours.
