One of District 25’s own is in the running for South Dakota Governor this spring.
What do you know about state House Speaker Jon Hansen of Dell Rapids — or the other candidates who will appear on the June 2 primary ballot?
If you missed a local Cracker Barrel this spring or another opportunity to hear from Hansen in person, there are still ways to get up to speed. One option is to look back at what candidates worked on — and how they voted — during the most recent legislative session.
There are also several public debates featuring the four Republican candidates vying for the nomination. The first was held this past week on KELO-TV and included Hansen, Gov. Larry Rhoden, U.S. Rep. Dusty Johnson and Aberdeen businessman Toby Doeden. Hansen, in an online poll, came out on top as the winner of the evening, speaking on issues that included the work done in this most recent legislative session on property taxes, priorities for education, the economy, and private property rights.
The next forum is set for this coming Monday in Sioux Falls, hosted by South Dakota Public Broadcasting and South Dakota News Watch in front of a live audience. The debate will be available on SDPB’s YouTube channel following the event.
A final public debate is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 27, at the Washington Pavilion’s Belbas Theater in Sioux Falls. The event will also feature a live audience and be hosted by The Dakota Scout and Forum Communications Company. It will be broadcast on Forum’s TV stations and available online afterward.
