Earn two big wins to open diamond season

SIOUX CENTER, IA – Flandreau’s softball season opened with two big wins at the 2026 Watchdog Indoor Classic held Saturday at American State Bank Complex in Sioux Center, IA.
The event, hosted by Beresford, saw the Fliers come away with wins over Alcester-Hudson, 17-7 and Arlington, 15-7.

Vs. Alcester-Hudson
Flandreau belted out eight first inning runs to get the season going early one and cruised to the five inning win, 17-7.
They added one run in the third, six in the fourth inning and closed it out with two runs in the bottom half of the fifth.
The Fliers were patience in the box earning 15 walks while only striking out three times. Rylee Allen had a good day at the plate batting 3-for-3 with a three bagger and two singles with six RBI. Mackenzie Gregory went 2-for-4 with a triple and a single and Aly Schepel batted out a double. Flandreau garnered nine hits at the plate. Scoring three runs each were Elodie Amdahl and Addy Hammer, Flier seniors.
Schepel took the ball for four innings allowing eight hits and six runs striking out four of the 26 batters she faced.
Nora Hamilton closed the game allowing two Cub hits.

Vs. Arlington
The team smashed out 18 hits in 42 at bats in the 15-7 win over the Cardinals.
Allen shined at the plate with a home run and two triples for five RBI and scored three runs. She wasn’t alone as Hammer added a triple, a single and three RBI. Hamilton was 3-for-4 batting out a double, a single and two steals on the bases and Gregory batted 4-for-5, all singles earning three RBI. Senior Amdahl hit a double along with seventh grader Loiseau.
Hamilton earned the win. She gave up the seven runs, six hits, struck out seven and walked seven in her five innings of work.
This week, the Fliers were to be at Parker on Tuesday and open up the home schedule hosting Castlewood on Thursday in the Flandreau City Park.
