Girls top Florence-Henry at DWU Classic

MITCHELL – Flandreau’s girls basketball team used a big first half and outscored the Florence/Henry Falcons, 26-11 to jump out and grab the lead in a contest held during the Dakota Wesleyan Classic, Friday in Mitchel.
Final score was 54-42. The Falcons scored 31 second half points to the Fliers’ 28, but Flandreau held on for the win.
Flier sophomore Morgan Sheppard received the game’s MVP honors for her performance. She scored 14, blocked seven shot attempts, brought down seven rebounds and made five assists.
The Fliers hit a sizzling 60.6% from the field connecting on 20 of 33 attempts. They were 10 of 16 from the charity stripe.
Also for the Fliers, Tenley LeBrun scored 14 points, Rhegan Sheppard added 12 and Hannah Krull finished with 10 and five rebounds.
The Falcons took the rebounds 32-28.
Leading scorers for the 9-9 Falcons were Lucy Bloom and Mylee Sumner with eight points each.
