Boys outshoot Cossacks, Dell Rapids

VOLGA – The Fliers took advantage of 19 Cossack turnovers and their cool 28.3% field goal shooting to pick up a win on the Sioux Valley court, Thursday, February 5, 48-41.
“It was fun to go on the road and get a win over a good Sioux Valley team,” noted Head Coach Brendan Sheppard.
“We gave a fantastic defensive effort and absolutely got after the boards. We got contributions from a variety of players.”
Flandreau led after a quarter, 13-6, and at the half, 22-16. They extended their lead in third, 35-22. The Cossacks attempted a comeback scoring 19 fourth quarter points while holding the Fliers to 13, but it wouldn’t be enough to win.
With 15 points, Luke Sheppard led the Fliers in scoring and he gave out six assists and four steals. Alex Poitra and Kody Kneebone both had nine counters.
Tate Hammer and Kneebone both brought down seven rebounds and Poitra and Sheppard both had six.
Sioux Valley was charged with 16 fouls sending the Fliers to the free throw line 16 times but the Fliers could only capitalize on nine.
Carter Sapp scored 12 and Connor Relf, 11 in the Cossack effort.
Sioux Valley took the JV game 52-39. Jake Hamilton scored 14 points and Trevor Peters and Nathan Ross each had six.
The C game was also won by the Cossacks in a 56-20 score. Griffin Hemmer and Samuel Wiese had six and five points respectively.

Boys top Dell Rapids

DELL RAPIDS – The Fliers scored 23 first quarter points and jumped out to an early lead to be victorious over the Dell Rapids Quarriers, 59-54.
“This was a good bounce back win for us coming off a tough loss the night before (MCM),” said Coach Brendan Sheppard.
“We had some good contributions up and down the lineup. Tate Hammer came in and brought good defensive energy. We made some clutch plays down the stretch to maintain our lead.”
The Fliers led at all quarter stops 23-17, 34-26, 44-41 and 59-54.
Senior Luke Sheppard had a great game falling just one rebound short of a triple double. He made 20 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists to lead the team.
Kody Kneebone put in 16 points and had eight rebounds and Xavier Bien from beyond the arc scored 15 points. He also had eight rebounds.
The Fliers shot a respectable 47.2% from the field, but struggled at the charity line making only 6-of-12.
Flandreau won the rebound game, 37-24.
Dells was led by Camden Jones with 16 points.
Dell Rapids won both the JV and C games.
Final score of the JV game was 58-47. Hammer scored 11 for the Fliers and Tucker Hemmer made nine points. Jake Hamilton added eight.
The C Game tally was 45-28. Griffin Hemmer scored six for the Fliers.
