No. 1 tops Fliers

FLANDREAU – West Central’s Trojans swept the three Flier games on Friday evening.
“The Class A #1 team in South Dakota came to the Flandreau gym Friday night and we gave them a pretty good game for three quarters,” said Coach Brendan Sheppard. “But in the final quarter, things got away from us. We competed tough even though we just didn’t have enough fire power on the offensive end.”
West Central outscored Flandreau in the first quarter 20-19, but then held Flandreau to only six second period points while scoring 14 to set the half time score at 34-25. The Fliers kept it close in the third scoring 10 points to the Trojans’ 14, but it was the Trojans’ fourth quarter scoring spree that put the game out of reach for Flandreau. West Central outscored the Fliers 24-7 to get the win.
Both teams shot evenly with the Fliers connecting on 42 percent to the Trojans’ 44. The Trojans won in the rebounding column, 35-20 and caused the Fliers to make 16 turnovers while only committing two.
