In the two meetings he’s attended since stepping into Dan Miles’ seat, Doug Entringer hasn’t wasted any time making his presence known. New to the Moody County Commission but not to local government, Entringer has been vocal in recent meetings — often by asking questions — as he works to get caught up on long-standing issues facing the county.
Whether his time on the board proves to be a one-year appointment or the start of a longer commitment, Entringer said his goal is to understand the issues and find where he can best be an asset.
Entringer, who lives north of Colman, brings years of local government experience to the role. He has served as clerk of Jefferson Township for many years, a position that has kept him closely involved with budgets, recordkeeping and the practical workings of local government.
“As a property taxpayer, I’ve always had an interest in knowing how our tax dollars are spent,” Entringer said.
When Miles approached him about finishing out the remainder of the term, Entringer said he viewed it as a good opportunity to serve.
His availability has increased in recent years as his son has taken over the family farming operation, allowing Entringer more time to commit to public service. He also said he enjoys working with numbers, a skill he expects will be useful as the commission addresses budgeting and financial decisions.
When asked about running for the seat in the fall, Entringer said it’s too early to know. For now, his focus remains on learning the role and contributing during the remainder of the term.
