Girls sink Dolphins

FLANDREAU – The Flier girls defeated Class B Deubrook Area on Thursday, January 29 on the Flandreau court.
Final score was 41-27. The Dolphins got on the score board late. The Fliers blanked them in the first quarter 13-0 and then held them to one second quarter points to lead 30-1 at the half. Flandreau scored 14 more points in the third as the Dolphins found the basket and scored 11. In the final quarter, Deubrook scored 15 to Flandreau’s 7 but it was too late.
Both teams were cool from the field. Flandreau hit 28 percent and Deubrook, 20 of their shots taken.
“Defensively, we played about as well as we could have in the first half,” said Coach Megan Severtson.
“Our length caused a lot of problems. Some things are starting to click for us on that end of the court, and it has been fun to watch.”
Morgan Sheppard topped all scorers with 18 points, 10 rebounds and blocked seven Dolphin shots. Her sister Rhegan scored 11 points.
Off the boards, the Fliers had three rebounders lead the team. Following Morgan Sheppard’s 10, Hannah Krull and Rhegan Sheppard both made eight boards.
For the Dolphins, Peyton Trooien scored 13 points.
Flandreau won the JV contest, 35-29 behind eight points from Ady Krull and Rona Streitz and seven from Tenley LeBrun.
Deubrook won the C game, 30-28. Rylah Otto and Krull both made six points and Molly Kelm and Charley Henderson both scored five.
