The access road in front of the new Flandreau Early Childhood Enrichment Center is expected to reopen within the coming weeks slightly later than first hoped giving local families their first close-up look at the highly-anticipated project and also easier access again to the Wm. Janklow Community Center.
Construction remains on schedule for a March 7 deadline, with plumbing and electrical work largely complete. Nearly 50 families have already expressed interest, and enrollment information will go out in early January. The center is expected to open in phases beginning March of this next year, and eventually serve up to 140 children. The ECE is a joint project of the City of Flandreau, the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe, the Flandreau Development Corporation, Moody County, Dakota Layers, and a CDBG grant through the state.
