Flandreau Public Schools will host a Veterans Day Program on Tuesday, November 11 beginning with free breakfast for the Veterans from 8-9 a.m. Please contact the school at 997-2455 if you are a veteran and will be coming for breakfast.
The program starts at 9 a.m. Veterans present will be recognized during the program and the Voice of Democracy winner will be announced and will read their essay .
The speaker will be Colonel Robert Firman, a 1991 FHS graduate. Firman is currently the chief of Strategy and Assessments for the Secretary of the Air Force Office of Public Affairs. He leads a cross-functional team of 16 military and civilian personnel advancing priorities of the Department of the Air Force and its leadership through research, planning, integration, alignment and assessment of public affairs activities across the Air Force.
Before this assignment he was hired by the General CQ Brown to be the Special Assistant for the Public Affairs to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff where he managed global communications in support of the Joint Staff, Combatant and Functional Commands, and the senior officer in the United States Military.
Prior to this assignment Col Firman was the commander of the 42d Mission Support Group at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama.
Colonel Firman earned his commission through Officer Training School at Maxwell AFB and is a career Public Affairs Officer and Foreign Area Officer. He has had a career full of diverse assignments.
Immediately following the program, there will be a reception to visit with Col. Firman at JJs Coffee Spot in Flandreau.
