The two teams traded wins with the Hawks taking the first set, 25-18, DRSM the second one, 25-20, the Hawks, 25-17, then DRSM, 25-21. The fifth set was won by the Cardinals, 15-12.
Finley Luze put with 15 set assists and Harper Mousel, 12.
Kinley Geigle scored four points via the ace with Luze scoring two. Caelee LeBrun had 11 digs while Mauryn Landis and Geigle had nine apiece.
The loss drops the Hawks to a record of 20-6 and 8-1 in the Dakota Valley Conference.
On Tuesday, they entered Region 3B post-season play, as the three seed, in the Bridgewater-Emery gym against Sanborn Central-Woonsocket.
Chester Area (27-1) is the top seed and B-E (27-3) is the number two. Both have first round byes.
A win for the Hawks moves them to a match with Bridgewater-Emery on Thursday.
