Refreshing the inside of the Egan Senior Center has been a topic of conversation for years maybe even decades. And while vintage looks have their charm, that old orange carpet had finally overstayed its welcome. The walls, too, were long overdue for a coat of paint.
What happened here a few weeks ago was Norm (Koehn) came out and said, Ill volunteer my time and paint it, and LiAnne (Larson) was here and said, Ill buy the paint, said Donna Koehn, who was in helping clean with her husband, Norma, and good friend, Barb Warborg, this past Tuesday.
No timeline was ever set, but once the offer was on the table, it didnt take long for work to begin. By this past week, the community gathering space and local polling place had a whole new look and feel. Some finishing touches like new curtains are still to come, but the difference is already striking.
Thanks to dedicated volunteers and some help from the City, the Egan Senior Center now boasts new carpet in the main room, plank-style vinyl flooring in the kitchen where the orange carpet once lay, and fresh paint and baseboards throughout.
The city helped cover the cost of the carpet, while everything else was funded by the seniors themselves or donated by community members.
Its going to look really nice when we finally get everything put back together, said Warborg.
