Investigation continues in death of young mother

Family, friends, and the greater community of Flandreau is still waiting for answers in the tragic loss of Jamie White, who went missing early on July 5th near the Flandreau Dam.
Authorities confirmed that a body was discovered and removed from the Big Sioux River on July 9, just south of the dam area, bringing a heartbreaking conclusion to a search that involved multiple agencies, as well as family and friends, over the course of four days.
White was believed to have either fallen, been pushed, or jumped into the river during the early morning hours of July 5th. Investigators are working to piece together the circumstances, especially given conflicting accounts from at least one individual who was with White at the dam that night.
Rescue crews from Flandreau, Colman, Brookings Search and Rescue, Flandreau Fire Department, and Sioux Falls Fire and Rescue worked tirelessly in dangerous conditions created by high and swift-moving waters in the search for the young mother of four.
Flandreau Police Chief Zach Weber told the Moody County Enterprise that, to date, the investigation has offered no additional information for the family or the community. Authorities connected with the Flandreau Police Department, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribal Police Department, and Flandreau Fire Department continue to investigate, but no further updates have been released.
